#LeadandLift | Episode 61
Most of us wake up, get out of bed, brush our teeth, shower, get breakfast (if we have time), and then rush outside to face the day. That state of busyness then stays with us all day.
We do all that and yet, there is no progress. We end up working on the wrong things, we spend the day in the wrong place, and we don't move forward. Then we work after hours. Because, of course, we want to show that we are committed to the company. We skip lunches and sit at a computer sometimes not even getting enough time to go to the bathroom until it's an emergency.
This is the reality of many people today, especially in corporate. The secret to breaking this cycle is by going directly to the root, the beginning of the day. Starting the day differently can give you more time and energy and will create momentum that will propel you forward during the day.
One of the secrets that many successful people have is a morning habit or a morning routine. They invest the first 60 minutes of each day in rituals that strengthen their mind, their body, and spirit so that they're ready for the day.
These are three common themes
● Movement through exercise and other physical activities.
● Reflection through journaling, meditation, gratitude or prayer.
● Growth through reading books or listening to podcasts or audiobooks.
Some people call their morning their power hour because in it they take time to battle-proof their mind and body for the day ahead. Having a morning routine brings many different advantages. For one, ideas have streams of ideas that have the potential to flow if you open up your mind. You will be calmer, more balanced, more grounded, and therefore, more ready to face the challenges that will come.
The goal with studying people’s morning habits is for you to eventually create your own. To help you with that, I will share two books that really helped me in creating my own morning habit and stick with it.
Hal Elrod wrote a book called, “Miracle Morning: The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM)” and in it, he explains the concept of his propriety process called Life SAVERS, an acronym for six things that are a part of his miracle morning habit.
Strive to dedicate the first 60 minutes of your day to doing all these practices and it will be guaranteed that you will be elevated to another level of success in your life.
The second book I recommend is “The 5AM Club: Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life” by Robin Sharma. In this book, Robin deconstructs an hour into 20-minute blocks, he called it the 202020 formula.
● The first 20-minute block is for movement. Exercise doesn’t only benefit your body, it also benefits your brain.
● The second 20-minute block is for reflection. This is where you journal, pray, or meditate.
● The third block is for growth. Invest these minutes into personal development
There are a lot of benefits to each block that Robin outlines in his book. Check out the book for yourself, I highly recommend it!
